The Youth Collaborative for Chinatown 青心在唐人街 (now Chinatown Generations Society) is collaborating with Bagua Artist Association and Chinatown Today to bring back “Hot & Noisy” Chinatown Mahjong Socials for a special Lunar New Year edition on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 3:00pm-6:00pm! IT TAKES A COMMUNITY!
Bringing back “Hot and Noisy” Chinatown Mahjong Socials (and maybe more activities!) is a collaborative, volunteer-powered labour of love. We can’t do it alone. If you would like the “Hot & Noisy” 熱鬧 (jit6 naau6 | rè nào) to continue in Chinatown, we need your help with:
VOLUNTEERS:
Help us by signing up for these roles to help us run the event smoothly:
- Set-Up (1:30-3:00pm): We need help bringing equipment to the space and setting up decorations.
- Greeter (3:00pm-6:00pm): Draw folks in from the street, greet them, and make them feel welcome at the event!
- Mahjong & Games Teacher/Facilitator (3:00pm-6:00pm): Help play-learn-teach Mahjong and help with ring toss!
- Red Envelope Activity Facilitator (3:00pm-6:00pm): Help folks share their stories in red envelopes for the New Year!
- Karaoke Helper (3:00pm-6:00pm): Help seniors pick songs and troubleshoot the speaker/computer for karaoke!
- Take-Down (6:00pm-7:00pm): We need help cleaning up at the end of the day.

DONATIONS:
- Mahjong tables/sets or Chinese games (as donations or on 3-4 month loans)
- Recycled materials for arts & crafts
- Dollars to help cover our modest operating costs: arts and crafts supplies, game prizes, replacing mahjong tables/tiles and games as they become subject to wear-and-tear, volunteer refreshments, printing, parking, etc.
