On Saturday, April 27th 2024, Arlene Chan, historian, and cultural consultant will be visiting from Toronto to speak at “Chinese Canadian Convos”, a paid event hosted by the Chinese Canadian Museum. The event will start at 6pm and include discussions of cultural authenticity and representations of Chinese Canadian culture in cinema, a screening of the documentary film Embrace the Panda: Making Turning Red, light refreshments, and a Q&A.

About Arlene Chan
Arlene Chan, author and Chinatown historian, has written seven books and contributed to numerous publications about the history, culture, and traditions of the Chinese in Canada. Her work has been recognized with the Chinese Canadian Legend Award, Heritage Toronto Special Achievement Award, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Award, and Delta Delta Delta Woman of Distinction Award.
Growing up in Toronto’s Chinatown as a third generation Chinese Canadian, Arlene incorporates her first-hand experiences and family stories into her speaking engagements and Chinatown tours.
Arlene is the president of the Jean Lumb Foundation that awards high school students of Chinese heritage from across Canada. She serves as an advisor for the Toronto Public Library’s Chinese Canadian Archive.

Transit: Chinatown is accessible by transit via skytrain and bus. The closest skytrain station is Stadium-Chinatown.
Parking: The closest paid parking is located on the street or at Chinatown Plaza (106 Keefer Street).
Restrooms: There are public washrooms available on the lower floor of the museum.
Venue accessibility: A loading zone is located near the front entrance of the museum. The different floors of the museum are accessible by stairs or elevator.
