As the first in this fall’s Chinatown Movie Nights event series, Farewell My Concubine will be screening this evening. Doors will open at 7:30pm, and the movie will start at 8:00pm.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seats, blankets, or cushions to rest on while watching the movie, as well as their own movie snacks. Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar.

Farewell My Concubine stars Leslie Cheung as a Beijing opera performer, and chronicles relationships of love and loss thorugh decades of fame, war, and revolution. Originally released in 1993, the film was banned in Mainland China shortly after release, with the ban only lifted after heavy censoring. Farewell My Concubine has been heralded for its depictions of gender and sexuality, tying together both the intimate and personal, and the grand scale of societal movements and strife.

Transit: Chinatown is accessible by transit via skytrain. The closest skytrain station is Stadium-Chinatown.
Parking: There is paid street parking or paid lots such as the Chinatown Plaza lot on Keefer Street.
Water: Please bring your own water to keep hydrated.
