The Downtown Eastside SRO Collaborative Society (SRO‑C) is currently collecting community input through a google form to inform their next steps in helping restore both Gain Wah and the Keefer Rooms building as a whole. This google form serves as the first step in a collaborative design process for the project.

 

Gain Wah is located on the ground floor of the Keefer Rooms building, at 218 Keefer Street. Gain Wah had been serving affordable and authentic Chinese food for over 40 years, and was one of the few remaining legacy businesses in Chinatown to offer sit-down dining, before it was gutted by fire on September 9, 2022. In addition to the restaurant, the fire displaced 45 residents, and this project aims to help them return home.
